Marijuana and Alcohol Compared

posted Jul 5, 10:47 PM by Puffo

The Drug Policy Forum of Texas has an interesting page comparing the threats posed by both alcohol and marijuana use. This should be something to think about as you watch the beer ads on TV or as you drive. Hundreds of thousands of non-violent drug users sit in prison today. Would it be too much to call them political prisoners? Should the government play nanny to it’s citizens over how they choose to treat their own bodies? Yes!

“By any of the major criteria of harm – mortality, morbidity, toxicity, addictiveness and relationship with crime – cannabis [marijuana] is less harmful than any of the other major illicit drugs, or than alcohol or tobacco.”

— Police Foundation [UK] report to the British government, March, 2000
